Registration includes

  • Completing and passing a skating test (only required for Level 4 officials).

MHOA Mentor Program

MHOA Mentor Program

MHOA has developed a formal Mentor Program for training new officials.  If you are interested in becoming an ice hockey official for MHOA you must successfully complete the MHOA Mentor Program.  Successful graduates of the Mentor Program become members of MHOA, and are then assigned games as a regular official.

Program Information

Minimum Age Requirement: 14

Prerequisite:  MHOA conducts orientation meetings for new officials twice a year.  At this meeting is it explained what is required of officials and what MHOA expects from them.  Also at this meeting all candidates are evaluated as to observation skills, skating skills and an explanation as to why they are interested in officiating ice hockey.  From those interested parties who attend the meeting, about 20 candidates are selected and invited to join the mentor program
.

If you are under the age of 17 then a parent must attend the orientation meeting.

Attendance at the orientation meeting is mandatory for you to be considered, but attendance does not guarantee you a spot.

Next Scheduled Orientation:  October 2010 (specific dates are not yet set)

Current Mentor Class:  Spring 2010

Mentor Class Information

  • If invited to join the program, each candidate must complete 12 hours of classroom training and 3 hours of on ice training.
  • After you complete the training you will spend about 4 months working games with Senior Officials of MHOA.
  • If successful, the candidate "graduates" and is eligible to be assigned on the normal MHOA schedule.

You may contact Bob Williams, Mentor Program Director, at mentordirector@mhoa.org for additional information.  You can also keep checking MHOA's web page, www.mhoa.org, and also look for notices posted in the rinks for the announcement of the date, time and location of this meeting.
