MHOA's Mission:

The purpose of MHOA shall be to register and train ice hockey officials for USA Hockey, Inc. and others in the State of Texas for the purposes of improving the quality of amateur and professional hockey in the state, for ensuring uniformity of rule interpretation, for creating better understanding between officials, coaches, players and other persons, for the developing of more efficient officiating and maintaining the highest standards of officiating, for providing a forum for the discussion and dissemination of information on ice hockey rules, procedures and interpretations, and generally promoting the welfare of amateur and professional hockey, its players, administrators, fans and officials.

Seminar Information

It's Registration Time - Important Information for All Officials

It is that time of year again and I would like EVERYONE to pay very careful attention to this communication. That means EVERYONE -- all of the mentorees, all the Level 1, 2, 3 and 4 officials. So there is no mistake, all registrations expire November 30, 2008 -- everyone will have to re-register as an official for the upcoming 2008-09 season.

Registration includes

  • Registering online as an official at www.usahockey.com. (Registration will begin sometime in August. You will receive a postcard from USA Hockey reminding you to do so.)
  • Attending an ALL DAY seminar (where Level 2, 3 & 4 officials must complete and pass a closed book test).
  • Completing and passing the open book test.
  • Completing and passing a skating test (only required for Level 4 officials).


SEMINAR INFORMATION 

August 23 & 24

This is an advanced two day seminar for MHOA members only -- Level 3 officials who have been registered at Level 3 for two seasons or more.  Other Level 3 or Level 2 officials who are wish to attend may make a request to be considered.  This seminar is going to focus on advanced officiating concepts and techniques.  It is designed for those officials who want to progress to working higher levels of competitive hockey and space will be limited to 45 officials.  If you are interested in being considered to work Varsity High School Hockey you should attend this seminar.  We will be focusing on such topics as leadership, skill development, skating, communication, teamwork, observation skills.  MHOA Staff instructors and two officials from the National Hockey League will be leading this group.  This seminar will be applied to your Level 3 registration and the Level 3 closed Book Test will be offered.  There will be no Level 2 closed book testing at this seminar.  Lunch will be provided both days.  Cost is $20.00.  Attendees will be required to have full officiating gear for the on ice session. Please bring a notebook, pencils, and a good attitude.

Pre-registration is REQUIRED. To register, you must mail me a check in the amount of $20 (payable to MHOA), and in the memo line of the check write your name followed by "Seminar 8/23-24 Registration".  My mailing address is:

September 14
USA Hockey Super Seminar at Star Center Farmers Branch.  This seminar is for Level 1-3 officials.  It will be conducted as USA Hockey Super Seminars have been in the past.  There will be a general session in the morning, with breakout sessions and on-ice work in the afternoon.  For MHOA members, pre-registration will be available again through Ref R Ranger in August.  Make sure you open you rink selections up to Star Center - Farmers Branch (SC-FB) in order to see the seminar and request space.  Cost is $20.00, payable at the door.  Attendees will be required to have full officiating gear for the on ice session. Please bring a notebook, pencils, and a good attitude.  All closed book testing for Level 2 and 3 will be conducted.

As of this time, ONLY one more seminar will be scheduled.  Dates and time TBD.  It will be a two night, middle of the week seminar to accommodate all who could not attend any of the previous seminars.  I advise you not to delay.  We are putting this information out now so you can prepare.  If you wait until the last minute, you will have to make you own arrangements.

MHOA Mentor Program

MHOA Mentor Program

MHOA has developed a formal Mentor Program for training new officials.  If you are interested in becoming an ice hockey official for MHOA you must successfully complete the MHOA Mentor Program.  Successful graduates of the Mentor Program become members of MHOA, and are then assigned games as a regular official.

Program Information

Minimum Age Requirement: 14

Prerequisite:  MUST attend Orientation Meeting to be considered.  If you are under the age of 17 a parent MUST attend the orientation.

Next Scheduled Orientation:  Fall 2008

Current Mentor Class:  Spring 2008 (class is full), no new applications can be accepted.

Mentor Class Information

  • If invited to join the program you will be required to attend 12 hours of classroom training and 3 hours of ice training.
  • After you complete the training you will spend about 4 months working games with Senior Officials of MHOA.
  • Upon graduation from the Mentor Program you would then be put on MHOA’s normal schedule.

Note: MHOA.org Members Area access is restricted to those officials who reside in the DFW area and regularly officiate games for MHOA. If you are an out-of-town official who travels to DFW occassionally to work games, the Rules page and Rinks page within the "Public Area" of this site contain the information you require.
